Support CAP

Volunteering, Internships and Donations

There is a long history of volunteering at CAP. In fact the organisation started in 1977 as a membership based group comprising exclusively of 'volunteers' who came together to share skills, ideas and experience. Today there are three main ways in which volunteers can make a contribution to the work of CAP.

Volunteering

Become a Trustee
The Board of Trustees are all volunteers who make a long term commitment to CAP. But there is an ongoing need to bring new trustees into the organisation, so if you are interested in offering leadership and support, can make a commitment of at least one year, attend meetings every two months and bring your specific skills and experience to bear on a particular issue or task then contact the Director for an informal discussion and a 'job description'.

Become a Volunteer
There are opportunities to become involved in specific projects. The possibilities are really endless and limited only by these variables:

  • The time you have available
  • Your skills and experience
  • CAP's current goals and activities

It is not even essential that you are 'physically' present in Cape Town since certain projects could be tackled using PCs and email. So if you have spare hours , motivation and something to offer - get in touch.

Internships

Become an Intern
In recent years CAP has hosted interns from around the world eg.: Scotland Canada and the USA. They have come either as students on placement linking their studies to work at CAP , as part of a wider country to country development programme or on their own initiative. In all these scenarios CAP's role is to offer interns the opportunity to use their skills and experience in ways which fully integrates them into the daily life of the organisation. In 1999 and 2000 they have made a major contribution to our work. In fact this very website was constructed/designed by Michael Caplan, a Canadian intern.

Donations

As an NGO in a developing country CAP always struggles to raise its annual budget and donations from individuals and businesses are very welcome. You can send money by cheque, international postal orders by deposit directly into our bank account. For further information, please contact us.

In July 2000 the generosity of Willemke de Groot and Hans Nooren meant that a group of our learners were able to participate in the Standard Bank National Arts Festival. You can also make such a difference!
