The Pioneer FarmhouseSome farmers settled in the Roodepoort-area after the Great Trek of 1834 - 1840. They faced many hardships in the harsh climate, and survival depended on initiative. Towns were far apart and provisions hard to come by. Children had to make do with home made toys such as rag dolls, clay oxen and "Dolosse" (shown here). The Farmhouse and Yard inside the museum reflect the lifestyle of these brave pioneers. |
